Austria proposes that the EU introduce Anthropic within its borders to address U.S. AI access restrictions
According to Reuters, the Austrian government has proposed that the EU consider bringing the AI company Anthropic into its territory to address the U.S. restrictions on foreign users accessing advanced AI models.
In an open letter to the EU Commissioner for Technology, Austrian Secretary of State for Digitalization Alexander Proell called on the EU to jointly explore Anthropic's strategic layout and participation in Europe, and to provide it with legal protection, market access, and capital support. He emphasized that Europe must ensure it is not excluded from major technological innovations and strive to become the architect of the technological future rather than a passive recipient.
It is reported that the European Commission proposed relevant legislation earlier this month aimed at boosting the local cloud computing, AI, and semiconductor industries to reduce dependence on U.S. tech giants. Currently, Anthropic has not responded to this proposal.
